Starlit Ridge Friesians Participates in Cornell Research Project

Starlit Ridge Friesians is participating in a research project being conducted by the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine.

Researchers are looking at the genetics of body size in the domestic horse. Horses come in a range of sizes, shapes, and temperaments. This is mostly a result of selective breeding—when traits like body size and conformation are selected for, so are changes in genes, called alleles, that affect these traits.

Their research could ultimately lead to the discovery of genes fundamental to growth processes and could improve the quality of life for both horses and all mammals, including humans.
